MARTIN GILL AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD SEX CRIMES IN MERSEYSIDE AND TURKEY
A notorious sex offender identified as Martin Gill has become the subject of a significant criminal case, with shocking allegations of historic sexual offenses committed in Merseyside, specifically in St Helens. The individual was convicted in his absence after fleeing the country prior to the culmination of his trial, and it is now believed that he is hiding in Turkey.
Gill’s criminal activities date back to the early 2000s, during which he targeted vulnerable young girls.
The victims, one of whom was as young as 10 years old, endured indecent assaults and sexual acts at the hands of Gill.
According to court statements read out during the proceedings, one victim recounted how Gill’s abuse caused her deep psychological distress, leading her to feelings of despair, nightmares, and suicidal thoughts.
She expressed that her life was severely affected by his actions, stating, “I didn’t want to live anymore,” and shared that she frequently experiences nightmares that bring her back to a traumatic childhood.
The sexual offenses escalated when Gill, then around 13 years old himself, raped one of the young girls.
The court heard how the abuse was prolonged and carried out in secret, with Gill threatening his victims to silence them.
These threats effectively silenced the victims for many years until they found the courage to speak out later in life.
The emotional and psychological impact of these abuses has left deep scars, with the victim describing her ongoing nightmares and feelings of fear and isolation.
The case took a complicated turn when Gill’s initial trial, scheduled to take place in Liverpool Crown Court, was postponed due to his testing positive for Covid-19.
Despite this setback, Gill did not appear at his rescheduled trial, prompting authorities to believe he had fled the UK.
The defense lawyer, Colin Witcher, confirmed that inquiries made to Gill showed no response or engagement, and with the defendant missing, there was little mitigation possible.
Gill’s address was recorded as Waring Avenue, in Waring, Merseyside.
Before fleeing, Gill had admitted to six counts of sexual assault, but he was also found guilty by a jury of an additional four counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape.
The court subsequently sentenced him to eight years in prison in his absence.
During the sentencing, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones emphasized the severity and prolonged nature of Gill’s abuse, pointing out how Gill had gradually increased his predatory behavior over years, using threats and manipulation to maintain control over his young victims.
The judge also highlighted the profound and lasting trauma inflicted on the victims, noting that the psychological scars remain evident.
As part of his sentence, Gill has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life, in accordance with the law.
His current whereabouts remain unknown, but authorities believe he is residing in Turkey, evading justice for his heinous crimes committed in Merseyside.
