MARKO ISTVANIC AND HIS HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN NEWCASTLE
A solitary individual with a disturbing history of possessing and distributing child abuse images has been sentenced in connection with his crimes.Marko Istvanic, a resident of Eglesfield Road, South Shields, was found to be in the possession of extremely graphic and illegal content involving the sexual abuse of children, alongside a video that extended over an hour in length.
Authorities uncovered that he had actively distributed six videos classified as Category A online, which are recognized as some of the most serious and heinous types of illegal material.
The case was brought before Durham Crown Court, where Istvanic appeared on a recent Tuesday to face sentencing for the charges of possessing and sharing indecent images of children.
The 35-year-old had earlier pleaded guilty to these offenses during a prior court hearing, which set the stage for the sentencing.
The prosecution, led by Lewis Kerr, detailed the police action that resulted in Istvanic’s arrest.
On March 31 of the previous year, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at his residence and confiscated his computer and desktop tower.
Subsequent forensic analysis revealed a disturbing collection of images downloaded through peer-to-peer software, highlighting the illegal content stored on his devices.
Specifically, investigators recovered a total of 15 images classified as Category A, which denote the most severe form of child abuse material, as well as three images falling under Category B, which is also considered illegal and harmful.
Moreover, Istvanic was found to have shared six videos categorized as Category A an astonishing 16 times across online platforms.
The material uncovered included images of both male and female children being sexually abused, as well as some involving animals, amplifying the gravity of the offences.
During police interviews, Istvanic attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he was not sexually attracted to children, but rather addicted to viewing such images.
The court was informed that one of the videos he possessed in Category A was over an hour long, specifically an hour and three minutes, with other videos also having considerable lengths.
It was noted that Istvanic had repeatedly deleted and re-downloaded images, suggesting an ongoing attempt to conceal or perpetuate his illegal activity.
Defense attorney Neil Bennett provided some context about his client, explaining that Istvanic is originally from Croatia and has no prior criminal record.
He highlighted that his client’s formative years were marked by significant social exclusion and bullying, partly due to a congenital condition that resulted in the loss of multiple fingers on his left hand.
Such challenges contributed to a lack of self-confidence and social difficulties.
Mr.
Bennett further explained that Istvanic developed an addiction to adult pornography, which ultimately spiraled into an unhealthy interest in illegal images involving children and animals.
The defendant expressed feelings of shame and disgust regarding his actions, with his lawyer emphasizing that the offenses occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was working remotely.
This period of heightened social isolation reportedly exacerbated his vulnerability to developing unhealthy habits.
The sentencing judge, James Adkin, described the material found with Istvanic as “utterly repellent,” emphasizing that the images and videos he possessed are among the most disturbing he had seen.
As a consequence, Istvanic was sentenced to two years in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which imposes restrictions aimed at protecting the public from future offending.
He was also ordered to be registered as a sex offender for a decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
