BIRKENHEAD MAN JAILED FOR MURDERING WIFE IN BRUTAL ATTACK
A man named Mark Wheeler, aged 52, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife.
Wheeler admitted to assaulting and killing his wife, Karen Wheeler, 62, at their home in Vittoria Close, Birkenhead, in May.
The assault was characterized as 'truly shocking,' with her son, David Bradley, discovering her after the attack.
According to Merseyside Police, Mrs Wheeler was found by her son, who also saw Mark Wheeler covered in blood and confined in the flat until police arrived on the scene.
Wheeler was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to serve a minimum of 15 years and four and a half months behind bars.
Despite paramedics' efforts, Mrs Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her son read a victim impact statement in court, describing her as 'the kindest, loveliest person I ever met' and expressing that the tragic event has shattered his trust.
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan stated that Mrs Wheeler underwent a 'truly shocking and brutal assault' and underscored the devastating effects on her loved ones.
The court's ruling aims to provide justice and help her family move forward from this tragedy.
