MARK SCOTTER FROM SCARBOROUGH SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL AND CRUELTY OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN IN YORK

In a significant case that has shocked the community of Scarborough, Mark Andrew Scotter, aged 38, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of seven years for a series of heinous historic offences involving two young children. The crimes, which spanned from the year 2000 to 2003, included a disturbing array of sexual abuse and cruelty acts committed against a boy and a girl in the Scarborough area.

Scotter’s conviction was secured at York Crown Court following a comprehensive trial that examined the details of his offending. The court heard that the offences against the victims involved rape, attempted rape, gross indecency, indecent assault, as well as acts of assault, ill treatment, and neglect. These acts inflicted profound physical and emotional trauma on the children, whose innocence was severely violated during their formative years.

North Yorkshire Police launched an extensive investigation into Scotter’s actions in June 2012, which ultimately led to his arrest. The investigation was thorough, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations and the importance of ensuring justice for the victims. Throughout the lengthy inquiry, the victims received specialized support and care, highlighting the commitment of authorities and support services to assist those affected by such traumatic experiences.

Detective Sergeant Mike Moorhouse, a representative of North Yorkshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit, expressed his condemnation of Scotter’s actions. He described Scotter as a “vile, sadistic individual” who deliberately targeted and abused children at a vulnerable age. DS Moorhouse emphasized that the prison sentence was a deserved outcome for the physical and emotional damage inflicted upon the victims. He also praised the courage of the victims for coming forward and seeking justice, acknowledging that while the court’s decision cannot undo the suffering endured, it marks an important step toward their recovery.

Sergeant Moorhouse urged any other victims of sexual abuse to contact North Yorkshire Police by dialing 101. He also reminded the public that in cases of immediate danger or threats to personal safety, dialing 999 is essential. Support and advice are available through Bridge House, North Yorkshire’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), which can be reached at 01904 669339 or through their website at http://www.turntobridgehouse.org. The authorities reaffirm their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
