MARK NUTTALL FROM HEREFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In May 2018, a disturbing case involving a man from Hereford came to light, revealing a pattern of heinous abuse against a young girl.Mark Nuttall, aged 58 and residing in Preston Wynne near Hereford, was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to child sexual exploitation and possession of indecent images of children.
According to court reports, Nuttall engaged in a prolonged campaign of abuse against an eight-year-old girl, whom he manipulated and exploited over a period when she was between eight and nine years old.
The defendant used manipulative tactics, encouraging her to perform sexual acts on him while she wore gloves, and even asked her to pretend to be a nurse, using her toy doctor and nurse sets.
The abuse escalated to the point where he made her lie on top of him while they watched pornography together, further traumatizing the young victim.
During the sentencing at Worcester Crown Court, the judge commended the girl for her bravery in coming forward and speaking out about her abuse, which was a crucial step in bringing Nuttall to justice.
The court heard that Nuttall had admitted to two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act, and three counts of making indecent images of children.
These images were categorized at various levels of severity, with three counts involving images at categories A, B, and C, the most serious being category A.
Prosecutor Giles Nelson detailed that Nuttall had shown the girl pornographic films and involved her in his own sexual fantasies.
When she expressed reluctance to touch him, he suggested she wear gloves, further coercing her into compliance.
The police investigation revealed that Nuttall was not only involved in direct abuse but also possessed a significant collection of child pornography.
On January 11 of the previous year, police arrested him and examined two electronic devices, uncovering 454 images of children as young as five engaged in sexual acts.
The images included penetrative sexual activity, with the most serious category A images being particularly disturbing.
Nuttall was interviewed by authorities, during which he denied being a 'sex tourist' and provided passwords to his electronic devices, including a laptop.
Despite his denials, the evidence was overwhelming.
The court noted that the images depicted ongoing abuse, emphasizing the global scale of child exploitation and the importance of addressing such crimes.
Judge Jim Tindal addressed Nuttall directly, highlighting that although he had no significant criminal record apart from minor convictions and was generally well-regarded by acquaintances, his actions revealed a darker side.
The judge condemned Nuttall for using the young girl as a sexual object over an extended period, causing lasting trauma.
The judge stated, “The effect on her has been dramatic.
The scars you left her with by using her will stay with her for the rest of her life.
You kept using her again and again like a piece of meat.” Regarding the possession of indecent images, the judge remarked that every image of a sexually abused child represents a real victim somewhere in the world, often enduring repeated abuse.
The court also considered the fact that some of the offenses occurred while Nuttall was under the influence of alcohol as an aggravating factor.
Sentencing, the judge imposed a total of five years in prison, with five years for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and concurrent sentences of two years and twelve months for the other charges.
Additionally, Nuttall was subject to a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his ability to travel abroad and requiring him to sign the sex offender register for life.
Before concluding, the judge conveyed a message to the young victim, praising her bravery and reassuring her that she was not at fault.
He emphasized that the person responsible for her suffering was now facing imprisonment, underscoring the severity of Nuttall’s crimes and the justice served.
