A 45-year-old man from Sheffield, Mark Hatter, has received a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his ex-partner, Dawn Backhouse.
Hatter was convicted of breaking into Ms Backhouse's home through a first-floor window and stabbing her.
The judge at Sheffield Crown Court mandated that Hatter must serve at least 25 years behind bars.
Ms Backhouse, a mother of three, lost her life in June after being stabbed.
Her father, Barry Taylor, shared his sorrow, noting that Dawn's life was "cruelly cut short" when she was just 31.
Investigations showed that the relationship between Hatter and Dawn had been declining, leading to the deadly attack during a heated confrontation.
Detective Inspector Phil Etheridge commented on the case, highlighting the struggles Hatter faced after their breakup and noting that his refusal to plead guilty increased the family's anguish.
