MARK GOODING'S VIOLENT RAMPAGE IN TIVERTON LEADS TO OVER THREE YEARS IN PRISON
A man named Mark Gooding, aged 25, has been sentenced to more than three years in prison following a violent outburst that took place in Tiverton. The incident involved a series of aggressive acts directed at his own family members and his pregnant partner, culminating in a court appearance where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.According to court reports, Gooding returned home heavily intoxicated after consuming a substantial amount of vodka and whisky. His intoxication was evident as he entered his residence in Tiverton, where he immediately began displaying aggressive behavior. His partner, Danielle Burns, was in bed at the time, and Gooding reportedly dragged her out of bed by her hair, causing her to hit her head against a door. This act of violence was part of a broader pattern of assault that unfolded that evening.
His fury did not stop there. Gooding turned his aggression towards his parents, with whom he lived in an annex attached to their family home. His father, Steven Gooding, aged 62, attempted to intervene when his son started to threaten and physically assault his mother, Gillian, aged 57. Gooding challenged his father with a confrontational remark, saying, 'What you going to do about it, punch me?' This led to a physical altercation where Gooding swung punches and even managed to put his father in a headlock. The situation escalated further when a stranger, who had been involved earlier in a dispute in Tiverton, managed to pull Gooding away from his father.
Despite being pulled off, Gooding’s violent streak persisted. He kicked a patio window, causing damage to the property. His aggression then turned towards his mother, Gillian, whom he confronted with the words, 'Well what you going to do about it? Get out of my f*****g way,' before delivering a punch to her face. The blow caused her glasses to dislodge, and she hit her head on the bathroom door frame, resulting in bleeding from her cheek.
Throughout this violent episode, Gooding’s behavior was marked by reckless and destructive actions. The chaos only subsided after police arrived at the scene, leading to a stand-off. During the confrontation, Gooding inflicted minor cuts on himself using a razor blade. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
In court, Gooding admitted to charges of grievous bodily harm (GBH), three counts of assault, and criminal damage. The court, presided over by Recorder Barnes, sentenced him to a fixed term of three years and three months in prison. It was also ordered that he serve half of this sentence before being eligible for release on licence. Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting his father for a period of ten years. Despite the violence, his mother has chosen to stand by him, and his pregnant partner was present in court to support him during the proceedings.
