MARK EVANS PLYMOUTH PAEDOPHILE CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN PLYMPTON
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Plympton, Plymouth Crown Court has revealed the details of a disturbing investigation involving Mark Evans, a man accused of possessing indecent images of children.The case came to light after Evans' estranged wife discovered incriminating material on their home computer, leading to a police investigation that uncovered a significant collection of illicit images.
On March 9, 2009, Evans' wife came across email correspondence directed to him on their shared computer.
Curious and concerned, she followed links embedded within these messages, which ultimately led her to a website called Youth And Beauty.
This site served as a gateway to a disturbing array of other online locations featuring images of young girls, including an eight-year-old girl posing clothed and naked, as well as various other pornographic sites.
Her discovery prompted her to alert the authorities immediately.
When police examined the computer, they found a total of 2,269 images classified at level one, which is considered the least serious category of indecent images.
Additionally, there were 12 images at level two, 27 at level three, and six at level four, with level five being the most severe.
Evans admitted that there might be more images stored elsewhere on his devices, and further searches revealed a total of 4,208 images and two videos at level one, along with one image and three movies at level two.
During police interviews, Evans, aged 46 and residing on Buckland Close in Plympton, admitted to having an interest in viewing photographs of children.
However, he claimed he was unaware of any images depicting abuse and insisted that he would never harm a child.
Despite his assertions, he pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent images and two counts of possessing such material.
The presiding judge, Recorder Martin Meeke QC, reviewed pre-sentence reports and addressed Evans' legal representative, Ali Rafati.
The judge acknowledged Evans' otherwise good character and noted his extensive work history.
He remarked that Evans had experienced an unhappy and troubled social life but was considered to be at low to medium risk of re-offending.
The court noted that the majority of the images found were at level one, with only a very small number at the more serious level four.
In sentencing, Evans received a 16-week jail term, suspended for two years.
The court also imposed a community order requiring him to attend the Internet Sex Offender Programme, along with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
Furthermore, Evans was banned for life from working with children and ordered to pay £500 towards prosecution costs.
He was also mandated to remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for a period of seven years, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing risk to the community.
