Mark Evans

Plympton Sexual Abuser

October 2011 Wife told police when she found indecent images on computer A PLYMPTON paedophile was unmasked by his wife when she found indecent images of children on their home computer, Plymouth Crown Court heard. Mark Evans’ now-estranged wife came across email messages to him on March 9, 2009 and followed links, one leading to a website called Youth And Beauty. This then gave access to other sites featuring a girl of eight posing clothed and naked teenage girls, and to other pornographic sites. She informed the police, who found 2,269 images at level one, 12 at level two, 27 at level three and six at level four on the computer. Level one is the least serious category and level five the most serious. Evans told police there might be more images on his laptop as well, and police found 4,208 pictures and two movies at level one and one picture and three movies at level two. In interview, he said he liked looking at photos of children but was unaware of any featuring abuse, adding that he would never harm a child. Evans, aged 46 and of Buckland Close, Plympton, pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent photos and two of possessing them. The judge, Recorder Martin Meeke QC, said yesterday that he had read pre-sentence reports on Evans, telling Evans’ barrister Ali Rafati: “I see much about him including an excellent work record. “He has had an unhappy and troubled social life but is at low to medium risk of re-conviction.” He said the vast majority of the images were at level one, with a very low number at level four, and Evans was of previous good character. He sentenced Evans to 16 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, imposed a community order including a requirement to attend the Internet Sex Offender Programme, imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and banned him for life from working with children. Evans was also ordered to pay £500 towards prosecution costs and remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for seven years.
