MAN CONVICTED OF 'CAMPAIGN' OF CHILD RAPE HANDED 23-YEAR SENTENCE
During his sentencing, a man convicted of carrying out a series of rapes against a young boy vociferously expressed his anger in court, shouting insults after being given a 23-year extended prison term as a dangerous offender.
The judge described Mark Cain’s sexual misconduct as the calculated and predatory actions of a man seeking to harm a child.
It was emphasised that an extended sentence was essential to protect the public from the danger he represented.
Cain was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court of four counts of raping a child under 13, involving at least 22 separate assaults, along with causing a child to watch a sexual act.
His criminal record included eight prior convictions for 22 offences, such as indecent assault, sexual assault, and robbery.
The abuse took place in the Vale of Glamorgan over a lengthy period but was only uncovered years later after disclosures made during a routine medical check.
Cain shouted profanities from the dock and called the proceedings “bullsh*t” after being sentenced.
His sentence includes 20 years of imprisonment plus three years on licence.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for life and subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to restrict access to children.
