PAEDOPHILE PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD SEX OFFENCES
2026-06-17 09:48: A sex offender was apprehended after arranging to meet a “14-year-old boy” at Newport bus station.Joshua Camplin, aged 33, had invited what he believed was a juvenile to come to the city to engage in oral sex.
He was deceived by an undercover police officer into thinking he was communicating with a minor still in school.
Camplin, who resides on Chepstow Road in Newport, is already a registered sex offender; in 2019, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison for possessing indecent images of children.
The court heard that after joining an adult dating website called Fab Boys, he was approached by a decoy.
Their conversations moved to email, where he requested images from the supposed boy and asked to see his genitals.
Previously, Camplin had sent a photograph of his own penis.
He urged the boy to come to Newport for oral sex but did not meet him at the bus station.
Instead, he was arrested outside Newport train station.
Camplin admitted to attempting to facilitate a child sex offence, engaging in sexual communication with a minor, and violating a sexual harm prevention order.
His actions took place between January 26 and March 3.
Although he was subject to a 10-year order from 2012, he breached it using the alias James Brown.
The court characterized his offending as worsening, with a deepening sexual interest in children.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison, with two-thirds to be served behind bars and an additional two and a half years on extended license.
Camplin is also required to register as a sex offender for life.
