MARIUSZ SOBIESKI SENTENCED IN PETERBOROUGH FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGE OFFENSES IN BRETTON
In May 2019, a man from Bretton, Peterborough, identified as Mariusz Sobieski, was sentenced after being found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images of children. The case came to light following a police operation that uncovered disturbing material at his residence in Eyrescroft, Bretton, during an executed warrant in August 2017.During the search, law enforcement officers seized a laptop and a USB stick belonging to Sobieski, which contained a total of 176 indecent images of minors. The images were categorized into different severity levels, with 156 classified as Category C, nine as Category B, and 11 as the most severe Category A. These findings highlighted the gravity of the material he had stored and possibly shared.
Following the discovery, Sobieski was promptly arrested and faced multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of distributing such images. He did not contest the charges and admitted to the offences at the earliest opportunity, which led to his appearance before Peterborough Crown Court.
On Wednesday, 1 May, Sobieski was sentenced for his crimes. The court handed down a sentence of eight months in prison, but this was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work as part of his rehabilitation.
Furthermore, Sobieski was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which will remain in effect for ten years, restricting his activities and interactions to prevent further harm. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety measures.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and highlights the serious legal consequences faced by offenders like Sobieski in the UK.
