MARIUS NASTASE FROM NORTHWOOD BANNED AFTER MOORGATE TUBE INCIDENT IN LONDON
In September 2018, a disturbing incident on the London Underground led to the arrest and conviction of Marius Nastase, a man from Northwood near Watford, for public indecency. The incident occurred on a Tube train traveling through central London, specifically involving a woman who was subjected to inappropriate behavior by Nastase.According to reports, Nastase was caught in the act of masturbating while on a Metropolitan Line train. The victim, who was traveling alone, managed to capture a photograph of Nastase as he disembarked at Moorgate Station. She then presented this evidence to the police, which ultimately led to his swift identification and arrest.
Following his apprehension, authorities brought Nastase to court, where he faced charges of public indecency. The case was heard at Southwark Crown Court, and on the Friday of the trial, Judge Philip Bartle QC delivered a stern verdict. The judge stated, “You must have gone into that carriage either with an erect penis or you got your penis erect. You were seen masturbating in the presence of this lady for what she says was about 10 minutes to her obvious distress and shock. It is a disgraceful piece of behaviour. You were a person of good character, you no longer are because you have this conviction.”
Prosecutor Gregor McKinley highlighted that there were other passengers nearby, including children, which heightened the severity of the offense. McKinley detailed that Nastase, who moved to the UK from Romania four years prior, boarded the train on the morning of Monday, October 17, 2016. He described how Nastase sat opposite the woman and appeared to manipulate and squeeze his genitals inside his jogging bottoms, an act that she noticed and found distressing.
As a result of his conviction, Nastase was sentenced to serve 100 days on a sexual offenders' rehabilitation course. Additionally, he was ordered to register his Oyster card with authorities so that his movements could be monitored. The court also mandated that he pay £1,050 in compensation and legal costs. This case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift law enforcement response to incidents of public indecency on London's public transport system.
