MARIO DIMAGGIO JAILED FOR 14 YEARS IN BRISTOL FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS
A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of rape and sexual assaults at Bristol Crown Court.
Mario DiMaggio, of Jacobs Wells Road in Bristol, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of rape and twelve counts of sexual assault, all committed against a single woman in early 2019.
The trial judge, William Hart, described DiMaggio’s behavior as predatory, and on March 14, he sentenced him to the prison term along with a lifetime restraining order.
Additionally, DiMaggio will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The offences were initially reported to the police in February 2019.
Investigating officer DC Martin Rutterford stated, 'Mario DiMaggio is a predatory sex offender and a danger to women.' After hearing the harrowing evidence presented during the trial, the jury unanimously found him guilty of all charges.
The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings, and DC Rutterford expressed hope that this outcome would bring some comfort to her following her ordeal.
He also emphasized that this verdict aims to reinforce that victims of rape and sexual offences will be listened to, believed, and respected, and assured that thorough investigations will be carried out to bring dangerous offenders like DiMaggio to justice.
