MARCUS GREEN FROM PENRHYNDEUDRAETH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT IN NORTH WALES

In a case that has drawn significant attention in the North Wales region, Marcus Green, aged 58, from Penrhyndeudraeth near Porthmadog, was convicted of indecently assaulting a male and received a sentence that many consider lenient given the circumstances.

The incident, which took place in May 2021, led to Green being sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court, where he was handed two concurrent eight-month prison terms.

However, these sentences were suspended for a period of two years, meaning Green will not serve time in prison unless he commits another offence within that timeframe.

As part of his sentence, Green is required to be electronically monitored for six months, a measure intended to ensure compliance with the court’s orders.

Additionally, he was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for ten years, restricting his contact with certain individuals and monitoring his activities to prevent further harm.

Furthermore, Green is subject to a ten-year restraining order that prohibits him from making contact with any persons connected to the case, safeguarding potential victims from any form of harassment or intimidation.

The identity of the victim remains protected under court orders, ensuring their anonymity is maintained throughout the legal process.

In addition to the restrictions, Green was ordered to pay prosecution costs amounting to £1,500 within 28 days.

He is also mandated to participate in 45 sessions of a Horizon treatment programme, designed to address underlying issues related to his offending, along with 40 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending.

Green’s criminal history includes a previous conviction from April 2007, when he was 44 years old.

At that time, he was found guilty of showing a pornographic film to a child and was subsequently placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

The incident involved Green giving a lift to a 13-year-old boy in his vehicle and inviting him to his flat, where he played a sexually explicit video and left the boy alone in the room.

Green then peered through the window to observe the boy’s reaction, which caused the young victim to feel shocked and embarrassed.

The court heard that police had been made aware of other incidents involving Green, although no additional charges had been filed at that time.

During the recent proceedings, court chairman Mrs.

Kit Ellis emphasized the importance of supervision and community safety, placing Green under a three-year community order with a supervision component.

She also ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years and pay court costs of £60, underscoring the ongoing concern regarding his conduct and the need for monitoring to prevent future offenses.
