MARCELLO DELIMA FROM PRESTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENSES AND INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Preston, a man named Marcello Delima has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting to serious sexual misconduct involving an eight-year-old girl, as well as possessing indecent images of children. The incident took place in December of the previous year, during a visit when the young girl was staying at the home of Delima’s wife.
According to court proceedings, the girl was spending time at the residence, playing with the couple’s two-year-old son.
After dinner, both the boy and his mother fell asleep, leaving the girl alone with Delima.
It was during this time that Delima, who is originally from Brazil and resides at Old Millstones in Preston, engaged in inappropriate behavior.
He asked the girl to sit beside him while he was using his laptop computer and proceeded to sexually touch her.
The prosecuting attorney, Robert Galinsky, described the girl’s reaction as one of terror, emphasizing the traumatic nature of the assault.
Once she returned home, the young girl confided in her mother about what had happened.
The incident was promptly reported to the police, leading to an investigation that resulted in the arrest of Delima and the seizure of his computer.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Delima had downloaded and subsequently deleted two videos earlier that month.
These videos were classified as indecent images of children, with one being a level two video and the other a level four.
The level four video depicted young children engaged in sexual acts with adults, highlighting the severity of the material involved.
Judge Heather Lloyd addressed the court, expressing her outrage at the case.
She stated, “Nobody who hears the facts of this case can be anything other than outraged.” She also criticized Delima’s attempt to shift blame onto the child, noting, “In some way you sought to blame the child for sitting on your knee.” The judge acknowledged Delima’s claims of confusion and inability to explain his actions but pointed out that he had taken little responsibility for his conduct.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Marcello Delima to 20 months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the harm caused to the young victim.
The case has left a lasting impact on the Preston community, raising concerns about child safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from abuse.
