MARC MCGARRY FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND HARASSMENT

In a case that highlights ongoing issues of domestic violence, Dundee Sheriff Court has handed down a sentence to Marc McGarry, a 44-year-old man from Dundee, for a prolonged period of abusive behavior directed towards his partner. The court heard that over a span of 16 months, McGarry subjected his partner to a series of disturbing and invasive actions that severely impacted her well-being and sense of safety.

According to court records, McGarry was responsible for repeatedly shouting at his partner during the night, often in the middle of the night hours, which prevented her from getting proper rest. This pattern of behavior was part of a broader course of conduct that the court described as abusive and controlling. The court also learned that McGarry went to the extent of recording his partner while she was asleep, an act that added a layer of invasion of privacy and intimidation to his actions. Furthermore, he made derogatory comments about her, which served to demean and undermine her confidence.

In addition to verbal and psychological abuse, McGarry was found to have taken jewelry from her home without permission, further demonstrating his disregard for her property and personal boundaries. The court also heard that he seized her phone and conducted an interrogation of its contents, invading her privacy and attempting to control her communication and social interactions.

The court was informed that McGarry had pleaded guilty to engaging in this abusive course of conduct between February 1, 2022, and June 19, 2023. Sheriff Eric Brown, presiding over the case, responded by imposing a sentence of 90 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, McGarry was placed under supervision for a period of 12 months, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring to prevent further abuse.
