BRISTOL IMAM MANZOOR HUSSAIN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN MOSQUE
In a case that has shocked the community in Bristol, Manzoor Hussain, a 42-year-old man from Ashley Road, was sentenced to a decade behind bars for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl.
The offences, which included one count of rape and four counts of indecent assault, occurred over a period stretching from July 1996 to March of the following year, within the premises of a mosque located in the city.
Hussain, who previously served as the imam at the mosque in Lower Cheltenham Place, was found guilty after a jury at Exeter Crown Court reached a majority verdict.
Throughout the trial, Hussain maintained his innocence, denying all charges brought against him.
Despite his protests, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure his conviction.
The court was informed that at the time of the offences, Hussain held a position of significant trust and respect within the community.
As an elder and religious leader, he was regarded as a figure of authority and moral guidance, especially among the children he was responsible for teaching.
