MANJINDER SINGH FROM TULLIBODY INVOLVED IN DISTURBING INCIDENT ON ALLOA TRAIN
In December 2018, a disturbing incident involving Manjinder Singh, a resident of Tullibody, took place on a train traveling to Alloa, which drew significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.Singh, aged 43 at the time, was traveling on a train heading towards Alloa when he engaged in highly inappropriate and criminal behavior directed at two teenage girls from the Wee County. The incident began after the two 16-year-old girls boarded the train at Stirling. Witnesses reported that Singh, who was already seated in the carriage, started to leer at the teenagers as they entered. The situation escalated when Singh moved his seat to sit directly opposite the girls, which they found strange and unsettling.
According to court proceedings, Singh then took out his phone from his trouser pocket and placed it in his jacket pocket with the camera lens directed towards the teenagers. The situation worsened as Singh began to touch himself in a sexual manner while staring at the two girls. Court documents detailed that Singh placed his hand over his crotch over his trousers and started to fondle himself for approximately four minutes. Subsequently, he moved his hand inside his trousers and began masturbating, all the while maintaining eye contact with the witnesses.
One of the teenage girls was so distressed by the behavior that she covered her mouth and exclaimed, “Oh, my god.” Despite the obvious distress caused, Singh continued his actions, placing his hands back over his trousers and continuing to play with himself. During this ordeal, one of the witnesses managed to take a photograph of Singh on her phone before the train arrived in Alloa. Once the train reached its destination, Singh left the carriage, and the incident was reported immediately to the police.
Following the report, Singh later attended Alloa police station after recognizing his image from the online images circulated by authorities. When questioned and cautioned, Singh admitted to understanding that his behavior was inappropriate but claimed he could not remember the incident clearly. The case was brought before Stirling Sheriff Court, where Singh pleaded guilty to a breach of the peace with sexual aggravation.
During the sentencing hearing held on Wednesday, November 28, Sheriff Simon Collins expressed concern over Singh’s immigration status, noting that although deportation was not being pursued by the Crown, the Secretary of State could take action to remove Singh from the country. The sheriff emphasized the distress caused to the victims and the seriousness of the offense.
In sentencing, Singh was given a Community Payback Order requiring him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work over six months. Additionally, he was placed under supervision for 18 months and his name was to be added to the Sex Offenders Register for the duration of that period. Sheriff Collins warned Singh that this sentence was an alternative to imprisonment and that failure to comply could result in a custodial sentence, underscoring the gravity of his actions and the impact on the victims.
