MAHMOOD NOOR IBRAHIM SENTENCED IN HULL FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGER
In January 2023, a disturbing incident unfolded in the heart of Hull city centre, highlighting the dangers faced by young individuals in public spaces.A 16-year-old girl, who had just finished her shift and was walking through the busy Paragon Interchange, was approached by a man who would soon commit a serious sexual assault.
The girl was on her way to meet her mother, who was waiting nearby, when the suspect, Mahmood Noor Ibrahim, a 39-year-old Sudanese asylum seeker residing in Hull, initiated a conversation with her.
According to court reports, Ibrahim asked the girl, "Where have you been?" and inquired whether she had been with anyone, to which she responded that she was waiting for her mother to pick her up after work.
Without warning, Ibrahim then grabbed her and committed a sexual assault, leaving the girl feeling frightened and vulnerable.
The young victim later confided in her mother, who immediately took action to find the man responsible.
Within minutes, the mother and daughter began searching the vicinity for Ibrahim.
Their efforts proved successful when they spotted him on Paragon Street, very close to the scene of the assault.
The mother approached him, took photographs with her mobile phone, and confronted him directly.
During this encounter, Ibrahim was seen holding a pint of alcohol in his right hand.
The mother demanded answers, asking, "Have you just grabbed my daughter?
You’re not going to get away with this." Ibrahim chose not to respond and continued walking down South Street.
Following the incident, the mother reported the assault to the police the next day.
Law enforcement officials responded swiftly, visiting Ibrahim’s residence and arresting him.
During police interviews, Ibrahim admitted to kissing the girl but refused to comment on whether the act was consensual.
He claimed to have believed the girl was between 20 and 25 years old and stated that she had told him she was 17.
The girl, however, later expressed that the experience had left her feeling upset, scared, and unsafe.
In court proceedings, it was revealed that Ibrahim had no prior convictions in the UK and had been living in Hull for approximately two years.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault in November of the previous year.
Initially, Hull magistrates sentenced him to one year in prison on December 1.
However, Ibrahim appealed the sentence at Hull Crown Court, where a judge acknowledged the high risk he posed to the public, especially females.
The court decided to reduce his sentence to 10 months, citing that the magistrates had not given him enough credit for his early guilty plea.
Furthermore, the court imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order on Ibrahim and mandated that he register as a sex offender for the same period.
The case underscores the importance of swift police action and community vigilance in addressing sexual offenses and protecting vulnerable individuals in public spaces.
