LUKE LINDLEY AND CRIMES IN HULL AND COTTINGHAM
A man named Luke Lindley, known to reside on Sharp Street in the Wyke area of Hull, was involved in a disturbing series of offences that highlighted his pattern of criminal behavior.Lindley, aged 28, was accused of engaging in inappropriate and predatory online conduct, which eventually led to a confrontation with law enforcement authorities.
The sequence of events unfolded when police officers were dispatched to Cottingham Road in Hull at approximately 8:20 pm.
Their visit was prompted by a report on a man who had traveled from the Rotherham area and was suspected of operating as a self-styled paedophile hunter.
This individual had established online contact with what were purportedly decoy girls aged 13 and 14 through Facebook Messenger, in an attempt to lure and entrap online predators.
These decoy profiles were part of an undercover operation designed to identify and confront individuals attempting to engage in illegal activities involving minors.
During these investigations, the person operating the decoy accounts directed police to Lindley's residence.
It was revealed that Lindley had been messaging the fake girls, openly expressing his desire to have sexual relations with one of them.
Furthermore, Lindley had sent videos of himself performing sexual acts, which intensified the concern surrounding his online conduct.
When questioned by the police, Lindley claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked, attempting to deny any involvement.
However, the authorities quickly demonstrated that this was not credible.
Lindley's arrest marked a tense and aggressive confrontation.
He resisted arrest by pushing away a police officer and struggled vigorously, leading to a physical altercation that resulted in one officer ending up on the floor with Lindley on top of him.
The officer sustained a bleeding hand during the scuffle.
Additional officers helped to restrain Lindley and take him into custody.
While detained, officers conducted a search of Lindley's person and discovered three hand-rolled cannabis cigarettes.
During police interviews, Lindley admitted that he believed the decoy girls he contacted were minors, confirming the disturbing nature of his intentions.
Lindley's criminal history was extensive.
Court records show he had previously committed 29 offenses between 2012 and 2020, including two counts of arson, eight counts of violence, and offenses related to public disorder, criminal damage, and possession of cannabis.
Notably, he had a prior conviction for a serious assault on his own father, which resulted in a fractured skull, and had also previously assaulted police officers in separate incidents.
At the time of the latest offences, Lindley was under a suspended prison sentence.
The court heard that Lindley had ceased to own a mobile phone, potentially as part of efforts to control his behavior, and during the legal proceedings, he was on bail awaiting sentencing.
His defense argued that Lindley had been receiving help and was not in possession of a mobile phone at the time of the arrest.
Due to the serious nature of the offences and Lindley's history of offending, the judge decided to adjourn sentencing until February 13 to allow for comprehensive reports to be prepared.
Lindley was remanded in custody because of the high risk he posed for reoffending, especially because the crimes occurred while he was under a suspended sentence.
Given the gravity of his actions, it is anticipated that he will face a substantial prison sentence at the next hearing, highlighting the ongoing concerns surrounding sexual offenses involving minors and the dangers posed by repeat offenders in the Hull area.
