WINSFORD MAN AVOIDS JAIL DESPITE ASSAULTING POLICE OFFICER
A man from Winsford has avoided an immediate prison term after assaulting a police officer.Luke Latham, residing on Queensway, attacked a female officer who was performing her duties as an emergency responder on February 6 in Chester.
The 24-year-old appeared before Chester Magistrates’ Court on March 27, having previously admitted guilt to the charge.
The court considered the incident to be "so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified," especially given Latham’s prior convictions.
Nonetheless, due to a "realistic prospect of rehabilitation," the magistrates suspended the 16-week prison sentence for 18 months.
Additionally, Latham was ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the police officer.
He is also required to complete 35 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and participate in a three-month alcohol treatment program.
