LUKE JONES FROM WARRINGTON SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC ASSAULT ON TWO-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN YORK
In March 2019, Luke Jones, a man from Warrington, was convicted of a heinous crime involving the severe assault of a two-year-old girl, an incident that shocked the local community and drew widespread condemnation. The young victim suffered such intense injuries that she required immediate medical attention, including the administration of morphine upon her arrival at the hospital.
Medical professionals performed an emergency operation within hours to address her critical condition, and fortunately, she has since been reported to have made what doctors believe is a full recovery.
Prosecutor Stephen Wood detailed the gravity of the case during the proceedings at York Crown Court, emphasizing the brutality of the assault.
The court heard that Luke Arthur Jones, aged 24 and formerly residing in Foxwood and Warrington, had pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a person under the age of 13 by penetration.
The nature of the crime was described as utterly appalling by Judge Andrew Stubbs QC, who presided over the case.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Stubbs imposed an extended prison sentence of 12 years, followed by a five-year period of extended licence, bringing the total potential incarceration period to 17 years.
The judge also praised paramedics David Butterfield and Dean Roberts for their professionalism and swift response when they arrived at the scene after Jones made a 999 call, describing the situation they encountered as truly appalling.
Graham Parkin, representing the prosecution, expressed the gravity of the defendant’s actions, stating, “There are very, very few things I can say on behalf of this defendant.” The court also ordered that Jones be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
This order prohibits him from having any contact with girls under 18, working or volunteering in environments involving children, and includes other restrictions aimed at protecting the public.
Overall, the case underscores the severity of the crime and the justice system’s response to such heinous acts, with the sentence reflecting the profound impact on the victim and the community of Warrington.
