LUKE HAYES FROM HULL SENTENCED AFTER SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING DRUNK SCHOOLGIRL
In October 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Luke Hayes, a 21-year-old man from Hull, who was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a teenage girl who was heavily intoxicated. The incident took place at a residence in Hull, where Hayes and two other males, aged 18 and 17, took advantage of the teenager's drunken state to have sex with her, one after the other.
Initially, Hayes and his co-defendants appeared before Hull Crown Court, where they admitted to their involvement in the sexual acts with the underage girl.
As a result, all three received non-custodial sentences, which means they were not sent to prison at that time.
However, the case took a significant turn when it was revealed that Hayes had failed to adhere to the conditions of his previous court orders.
Prosecutor Catherine Kioko-Gilligan informed Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, who presided over the case, that Hayes had breached a three-year community order.
Additionally, he had not complied with the requirements to notify authorities of his status as a sex offender and had also violated a suspended sentence previously imposed on him.
These breaches indicated a disregard for the court's directives and raised concerns about his rehabilitation.
During the sentencing, Judge Richardson addressed Hayes directly, stating, “I imagine in ordinary life she would not give you a second glance, and I doubt she did that evening.
However, you took advantage of the fact she was somewhat inebriated.” The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, highlighting the vulnerability of the teenage girl and the exploitation of her intoxicated state.
As the judge sentenced Hayes to 12 months in prison, the young man was visibly distressed, sobbing in the courtroom.
Judge Richardson remarked, “You are in many respects a very pitiable individual.
I hope this brings you to your senses that you can’t conduct your life in the way you have hitherto.” The emotional scene underscored the seriousness of the case and the court’s stance on protecting minors from such predatory behavior.
Throughout the proceedings, Hayes hung his head and continued to sob as the sentence was handed down, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the consequences now facing him.
