A man described as 'depraved' has been sentenced to prison following multiple sexual assaults on a woman while she was asleep, which he recorded on his mobile phone.

Luke Charlton, aged 27 and a resident of Shaw, Oldham, was sentenced to eight years after admitting to three counts of rape, as confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

Authorities explained that the investigation was sparked when the victim discovered a video on Charlton's device that appeared to show him engaging in sexual acts with her without her knowledge.

The woman had no memory of the incidents.

Further examination of the phone revealed several similar videos.

Charlton, living on Chancery Lane in Shaw, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court earlier this week.

Detective Sergeant Kate Dawson from Oldham CID described the case, stating: 'The acts committed by Mr Charlton are profoundly depraved.

He exploited the trust of his victim, who was on powerful medication for an incurable autoimmune disorder that hindered her ability to wake during these episodes.' The victim displayed remarkable courage throughout the investigation and court process.

While Charlton did not comment during police interrogations, the dedicated officers worked diligently to bring him to justice.
