South Marston Domestic Violence

A Wiltshire Police investigator has spoken about the sentencing of a former boxer who strangled and attacked his then-partner. Lucien Douglas, of Greenfields in South Marston received a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to criminal damage, battery and non-fatal strangulation. Local Crime Investigator Darren Chivers praised the bravery of the domestic abuse victim who contacted the police and helped bring her 38-year-old former partner to justice. Mr Chivers said: "Lucien Douglas has been remanded in prison since this incident in November 2023 due to the serious nature of the offence. I welcome the sentencing imposed on Tuesday and thank his victim for her bravery in coming forward and speaking out. I hope that the incredible courage shown by her will encourage other people to do the same and give us the opportunity to put a stop to this type of behaviour which cannot and will not be tolerated. I have seen the significant impact that this matter has had on the victim and I hope that this sentencing will now give her some form of closure to help her move on from the horrific ordeal she was put through by this perpetrator." As he has been remanded in custody for so long, Douglas has technically already served his time in prison and will therefore be released imminently. A Swindon Crown Court judge imposed a restraining order that bans him from contacting his victim for the next five years. On October 1, 2023, Douglas strangled his former partner and then, on November 26, 2023, he punched her in the face multiple times and caused more than £5,000 worth of damage to the property. His victim said in a statement read aloud during the court case: "I am sad that I let myself end up in such a situation which left me vulnerable and hurt and it also makes me angry with myself for becoming a victim in this way. I felt trapped during the relationship and still do as this incident is at the forefront of all I do and has taken over every aspect of my life." Wiltshire Police is reminding residents that domestic abuse can affect anyone regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, sexuality or social background. They are encouraging anyone who is suffering from physical, sexual, psychological or financial abuse, or is being threatened, intimidated or stalked by a current or previous partner or close family member, to report it to them.
