LUCIEN DOUGLAS FROM SOUTH MARSTON SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK AND STRANGULATION IN WILTSHIRE

A serious incident involving domestic violence has led to the conviction and sentencing of Lucien Douglas, a man from Greenfields in South Marston, who was found guilty of multiple charges including criminal damage, battery, and non-fatal strangulation. The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of domestic abuse within the community and highlights the bravery of the victim who came forward to seek justice.

According to Wiltshire Police, the incident occurred in November 2023, when Douglas, aged 38, physically assaulted his former partner. The assault involved him strangling her, an act that left her in a state of distress and fear. The victim, whose identity has been kept confidential for her safety, later reported the attack to the authorities, demonstrating remarkable courage in the face of her trauma. Her decision to speak out was instrumental in bringing Douglas to justice.

Following the initial incident, Douglas was remanded in custody, and as of the sentencing date, he has been detained since the event in November. This means he has already served the time equivalent to his prison sentence, and he is expected to be released soon. The court proceedings also included a restraining order, which prohibits Douglas from contacting his victim for a period of five years, aiming to protect her from further harm.

On October 1, 2023, Douglas was involved in a further act of violence when he strangled his partner. Later, on November 26, 2023, he inflicted additional harm by punching her multiple times, causing her physical injuries. The assault also resulted in property damage exceeding £5,000, further compounding the severity of his actions. During the court case, the victim delivered a heartfelt statement, expressing her feelings of vulnerability and anger. She said, "I am sad that I let myself end up in such a situation which left me vulnerable and hurt and it also makes me angry with myself for becoming a victim in this way. I felt trapped during the relationship and still do as this incident is at the forefront of all I do and has taken over every aspect of my life."

Local Crime Investigator Darren Chivers praised the victim’s bravery, emphasizing the importance of her courage in helping to secure justice. He also expressed hope that her actions would inspire others suffering in similar circumstances to come forward and seek help. Chivers stated, "Lucien Douglas has been remanded in prison since this incident in November 2023 due to the serious nature of the offence. I welcome the sentencing imposed on Tuesday and thank his victim for her bravery in coming forward and speaking out. I hope that the incredible courage shown by her will encourage other people to do the same and give us the opportunity to put a stop to this type of behaviour which cannot and will not be tolerated. I have seen the significant impact that this matter has had on the victim and I hope that this sentencing will now give her some form of closure to help her move on from the horrific ordeal she was put through by this perpetrator."

Wiltshire Police continue to remind residents that domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, sexuality, or social background. They urge anyone experiencing physical, sexual, psychological, or financial abuse, or who is being threatened, intimidated, or stalked by a current or former partner or close family member, to report these incidents promptly. The police emphasize that support is available and that no one should suffer in silence.
