LUCAS MILNE FROM KINGBRIDGE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEX WITH 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN KINGSBRIDGE

In March 2009, a young man named Lucas Milne, aged 18 at the time, narrowly avoided immediate imprisonment after engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was only 14 years old. Milne, who resides in Frogmore near Kingsbridge, appeared before Plymouth Crown Court to face charges related to this incident.

The court proceedings revealed that the sexual encounter took place sometime between July 27 and August 31 of the previous year. According to the court's account, the girl involved had consented to the act, and Milne claimed that she had initiated the sexual activity. It was noted that the pair had only engaged in intercourse once during this period.

However, the situation took a turn when the girl discovered that Milne was also sleeping with other girls. This revelation led her to regret her actions and she subsequently confided in her mother about what had transpired. The case highlighted the complex emotional and legal issues surrounding underage sexual activity and consent.

During the sentencing, Judge Francis Gilbert QC acknowledged that the girl was underage at the time of the incident. He emphasized that laws are specifically designed to protect young girls from exploitation and harm. The judge remarked, “Even if at the time she was enthusiastic, she may suffer psychological damage in the long run,” underscoring the potential long-term effects of such experiences.

While noting that Milne and the girl had used a condom during their encounter, the judge also recognized Milne’s guilty plea, which was taken into account during sentencing. Nevertheless, he issued a stern warning that should Milne commit a similar offence again, he would face imprisonment.

Ultimately, Judge Gilbert sentenced Milne to six months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years. Additionally, Milne was ordered to reside at his home for a month, to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of seven years, and to comply with other conditions aimed at monitoring his conduct moving forward.
