LORN MCLUCKIE SENTENCED IN BELFAST FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER EVA KOMUVES

Lorn McLuckie, a 46-year-old man from Belfast, has been handed down a prison sentence of two and a half years following his conviction for physically assaulting his former partner. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details of the assault, which resulted in serious injuries to the victim, Eva Komuves, aged 48.

During the trial, McLuckie was found guilty of grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court heard that on a particular occasion, he launched a violent attack on Ms. Komuves, leaving her with significant facial injuries that required extensive medical treatment. The sentence handed to McLuckie comprises two years and six months in prison, with an additional 15 months to be served behind bars. Following this, he will be subject to a 15-month period on licence, during which he will be under supervision.

Detective Chief Inspector Jill Duffie provided a detailed account of the incident, stating, "On 11th August 2023, an ambulance was called to a property in Belfast where Eva was found seriously injured after being assaulted by Mr. McLuckie. He punched her in the mouth, which caused fractures to her upper left palate and jaw, as well as severe displacement of five teeth."

Ms. Komuves has endured multiple surgeries and has undergone extensive counseling to aid her recovery from the trauma inflicted upon her. Despite her ordeal, she recently took the opportunity to speak publicly at an event supporting the police's 'Power to Change' campaign. During her speech, she shared her personal experience of the assault and emphasized the importance of speaking out and seeking help. Her message was clear: victims should not suffer in silence.

Detective Duffie underscored the pervasive nature of domestic abuse, noting that many cases go unreported because they occur behind closed doors. She encouraged victims to come forward and report incidents of violence. The 'Power to Change' campaign, launched in January, aims to challenge misogynistic attitudes and promote societal change to prevent such violence.

Ms. Komuves also addressed other victims of abuse, urging them to find the courage to seek help. Her words resonated with many: "Don't suffer in silence. There is life after abuse if you take the brave step to reach out for help."
