LLOYD BELLAMY'S SHOCKING DOG THEFT IN SOUTHSEA AND PORTSMOUTH

Lloyd Bellamy, a known criminal with a troubling history, was involved in a disturbing incident that took place in the streets of Southsea and Portsmouth. Born around 1994 and originally from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Bellamy had been residing at Hawthorn Crescent, Cosham, Portsmouth PO6 since 2018. His criminal record includes a conviction in 2016, and he is notorious for his violent tendencies and previous offenses.

The incident in question occurred on June 8, 2015, in Portsmouth. Bellamy, then 21 years old, approached a dog owner in the street and struck up a seemingly friendly conversation. However, the situation quickly escalated when Bellamy suddenly snatched the lead of a dog named Puma, a Staffy, and ran off with the animal. The owner was left shocked and distressed as Bellamy made his escape, leaving the dog missing and unaccounted for ever since.

Despite initial charges of robbery, Bellamy ultimately pleaded guilty only to theft and assault by beating. The court was informed that Bellamy did not sell the dog but instead took a taxi and handed the animal over to a friend of an Aqua Cars driver. However, there was no concrete evidence to support this claim, and the dog has not been seen or recovered since the theft.

During the court proceedings, Bellamy’s solicitor explained that his client had a history of personal difficulties, including mental health issues and autism, which contributed to his impulsive actions. The solicitor emphasized that Bellamy had not sold Puma and suggested that his actions were influenced by his mental health challenges.

Judge Sarah Munro QC addressed Bellamy directly, describing the gravity of the offense. She stated, “This offence involved you out at night confronting a man who had his dog with him, initially behaving in a friendly way to him but then forcing the lead out of the man’s hand causing soreness. And when he tried grabbing the dog’s lead back, you pushed him away and called him a foul name.”

The judge highlighted the emotional impact of the theft, noting that the dog was deeply valued by its owner. “It has not been recovered, and the man described that dog as having meant the world to him,” she said. She also pointed out Bellamy’s long history of trouble, remarking, “That’s a very long time, you’ve never managed to stay out of trouble for two years.”

Bellamy’s criminal record includes a previous conviction for possession of a bladed article, for which he received a community order. In light of his latest offense, the court sentenced him to a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years, along with a three-month tagging order. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the crime and the ongoing concerns about Bellamy’s conduct in the community.
