LISA MOREFIELD FROM SALISBURY JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 14-YEAR-OLD BOY IN SALISBURY
In May 2019, a woman named Lisa Moorefield from Salisbury was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old boy in his own home. The incident occurred after she spent an evening drinking with the boy’s family, during which she developed a close and inappropriate relationship with the young teenager.According to court proceedings, Moorefield had sexual relations with the boy behind the back of his mother, who was a friend of hers. The court heard that Moorefield admitted to five counts of inciting a minor to engage in sexual acts. Despite her admission, Judge Francis Sheridan remarked that the 14-year-old was a willing participant in the acts, emphasizing that both parties took part voluntarily. The judge also pointed out that, although the UK’s age of consent is 16, the nature of their involvement was consensual in the context of the court’s assessment.
The court was informed that Moorefield, aged 32, had met the boy through his mother and had become infatuated with him. She would often wait at his home, and the two would drink alcohol together along with the boy’s family members. Over the course of at least four occasions, the pair engaged in sexual activity. The situation came to light when the boy’s mother discovered the inappropriate relationship, which left her horrified and prompted police intervention.
Police investigations uncovered a significant piece of evidence: the boy had recorded a sexual act performed by Moorefield on him. This recording played a crucial role in establishing the case against her. During the trial, Moorefield’s defense lawyer, Alesdair King, argued that the presence of alcohol and drugs was a constant in the boy’s life and that Moorefield was not using substances to coerce or incite him into sexual activity. Mr. King also highlighted Moorefield’s responsibilities as a mother to a four-year-old daughter, who was living with her grandparents, suggesting that a jail sentence could severely impact her child’s well-being.
Moorefield arrived at Aylesbury Crown Court with a packed bag, seemingly prepared for her potential incarceration. Judge Sheridan addressed her directly, acknowledging her past struggles, including surviving a violent relationship that resulted in numerous police call-outs. The judge described Moorefield’s relationship with the young boy as a clear case of an adult exploiting her position of trust, especially given the significant age disparity. He emphasized that her relationship with the boy had developed into a sexual one, with both parties participating voluntarily, but as the adult, Moorefield played the dominant role.
While the judge recognized that alcohol and drugs were involved, he clarified that Moorefield was not actively plying the boy with substances. However, he expressed concern that the boy had arrived at her home on at least one occasion under the influence of drugs, which he considered a serious breach of trust and an element of abuse of friendship.
In his sentencing, Judge Sheridan imposed a prison term of two years and two months on Moorefield. Additionally, she was ordered to spend ten years on the Sex Offenders’ Register, reflecting the gravity of her actions and the breach of trust involved in the case.
