LIAM TWEED'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN COVENTRY: VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION AT HIS PARTNER'S HOME

In a disturbing series of violent acts, Liam Tweed, a man with no fixed address from Coventry, subjected his partner to a terrifying ordeal that culminated in physical assault and extensive property damage. The incident unfolded after a night out in Coventry that quickly spiraled out of control, revealing a pattern of drunken violence and aggressive behavior.

Earlier that evening, Tweed and his then-partner traveled from Nuneaton to a pub located on The Burges in Coventry. Witnesses report that Tweed consumed multiple pints of lager, and tensions escalated when he became angry at a fellow patron whom he believed had made inappropriate remarks directed at his partner. The situation grew tense, prompting Tweed to leave the pub to use the toilets. When he failed to return promptly, his partner decided to leave alone by bus and went to bed, while Tweed also left the premises, making a stop at a nearby supermarket before eventually boarding a bus back to his partner’s home.

Upon returning, Tweed’s behavior took a violent turn. The victim was awakened by his shouting, during which he accused her of leaving him in Coventry and running off, saying, “It’s your fault that I got battered, you left me in Cov and ran off.” In a fit of rage, Tweed grabbed her and forcibly pushed her into the bathroom. During this confrontation, she bit him in an attempt to escape. The violence escalated further when Tweed seized a clown ornament and struck her twice over the head as she desperately tried to retrieve her phone. Blood was drawn from the victim, and seeing this, Tweed left the room, giving her a moment to move back into the bedroom, push a set of drawers against the door for protection, and call the police.

While on the phone with emergency services, Tweed continued his assault by punching through the top of the bedroom door. He then ran downstairs and proceeded to smash four bay windows with a hammer, causing significant damage to the property. His destructive spree did not end there; he punched holes in other walls and destroyed a television along with various ornaments scattered throughout the house. The chaos culminated with Tweed leaving the scene, only to later surrender himself to police authorities later that night.

On January 22, Tweed was formally sentenced to 45 months in prison for his actions. In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £228. The charges against him included Section 18 wounding with intent, criminal damage to property, and destruction of property. The investigating officer, Detective Constable McCauley, commented on the case, stating, “Tweed got drunk, got angry, got belligerent and decided that his own faults were the fault of the victim. He attacked her. He destroyed her property. He treated her as property.”

DC McCauley further emphasized the seriousness of the incident, saying, “His actions are reprehensible and we can only hope after 45 months of concrete walls and bars that he might come to a full understanding of his actions. We're working with the victim to provide support at this time and we would encourage anyone else who has suffered violence in their relationship to come and talk to us sooner rather than later.”
