KENT MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK THAT LEFT GIRLFRIEND WITH BROKEN ARM

Liam Prendergast, a man from Walmer, near Deal, has been convicted and sentenced for a violent assault against his former partner. The incident involved Prendergast punching her arm with such force that it resulted in a broken arm, requiring surgery and leaving a permanent scar. The court was told that on October 6, 2021, following a heated argument after dropping her daughter at school, Prendergast became aggressive. He pinned her down on the bed, held her arms above her head, and struck her in a moment described as impulsive and spontaneous. Neighbours intervened after hearing her screams, and she later sought hospital treatment, undergoing surgery to repair the damage. Despite his initial denial and false accusations during police interviews, Prendergast eventually admitted guilt in court and was sentenced to 16 months in prison, with the judge noting his high risk of reoffending and the significant harm caused. The court also highlighted his repeated criminal behavior post-attack, with a total of seven convictions for 14 offences, and his failure to surrender to bail which led to his arrest at home. The sentence reflected the gravity of the injury, the risk he poses, and the need for immediate custody to protect others from harm.
