HULL MAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ONLINE CHILD ABUSE
An online pervert who believed he was exchanging inappropriate messages with a 'shy' 14-year-old girl was confronted at his home by internet paedophile hunters.
Liam Hallett, aged 28 and from Taunton Road, west Hull, asked the decoy girl to send naked pictures of herself, while he sent an explicit video of himself in an attempt to entice further sexual activity.
During the exchanges, Hallett made indecent suggestions and requested more explicit images, including requests for her to take naked photos.
The decoy girl claimed she was shy and had never taken such pictures.
On June 2, 2023, members of an online child safety group arrived at his residence, and police subsequently arrested him.
Hallett admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
It emerged he had no previous convictions but had received a caution in 2016 for causing a child to watch a sexual act.
He expressed remorse for his actions and stated he was off work with an injury and hoped to return soon, also indicating willingness to cooperate with probation.
At Hull Crown Court, Judge Alexander Menary sentenced Hallett to a one-year suspended prison term, 15 days of rehabilitation, a 26-session sex offender treatment program, a 60-day alcohol abstinence monitoring order, and imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, requiring him to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
