October 2012 Liam Gormley jailed for voyeurism at Newcastle council A Newcastle City Council employee who used secret cameras hidden in staff toilets to spy on his colleagues has been jailed for two-and-a-half-years. Liam Gormley had earlier admitted 27 charges, which included voyeurism, and possessing and distributing indecent images of children. The 32-year-old from Benton Road, Newcastle, was also banned from working with children. He was suspended after his arrest and no longer works for the authority. The judge at Newcastle Crown Court ordered Gormley to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. A council spokesman said: “Newcastle City Council is pleased that the criminal prosecution against Gormley is now concluded. “This has been a distressing time for the staff affected. “The council has and will continue to support these staff through access to counselling and other support services. “Gormley was immediately suspended from duty once the council became aware of the allegations. He subsequently resigned.” September 2012 Liam Gormley pleads guilty to voyeurism charges A former council employee from Northumberland has pleaded guilty to charges including voyeurism and making indecent images of children. Liam Gormley was suspended by Newcastle City Council after he was arrested and subsequently charged with 29 offences following a police investigation when images were seized. The 32-year-old from Blyth pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court earlier. He will be sentenced on 26 October. A council spokeswoman said staff had been informed of the outcome of court proceedings and confirmed Gormley no longer worked for the authority. The charges related to voyeurism, possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children, and possessing extreme pornography. They relate to locations across the North East including leisure centres, a holiday camp and a dance studio.
