Update 02/04/2026: Liam Dawson, 34, from Burton-on-Trent, was sentenced to 15 years and three months in prison at Stafford Crown Court on Friday (27 March) after he pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent. He had previously denied the charge, changing his plea before trial.

In May last year, we responded to a report of a woman screaming on Kitling Greaves Lane in Burton-on-Trent.
Officers attended the location and found Dawson and a woman next to a damaged black Audi S3.
The woman, who was bruised and bleeding from her head, told officers that Dawson had driven them to the location before crashing the Audi on purpose and subjecting her to a sustained assault.
The abuse lasted several hours.
Following a collision with metal railings, Dawson dragged the victim out of the car by her hair before repeatedly punching and kicking her head.
During the attack, he pulled her jewellery off, throwing this along with her phone into a nearby brook, where he eventually held her head and body under water.
He then dragged her back to the car and slammed a door on her head.
The victim passed out and when she woke up Dawson was defecating on her face.
He then continued to punch her in the head.
Throughout the assault, Dawson told the victim that he was going to kill her.
Nearby residents contacted police after hearing a woman screaming.
Dawson was arrested and the victim safeguarded.

Liam Dawson, formerly of Rose Cottage Gardens in Burton, was implicated in a series of three violent attacks on his girlfriend within a brief period.
The court was informed that he became paranoid that she was associating with other men, which led to these violent incidents.
In one case, he struck her with a brandy bottle while she was driving, causing her to bleed from her head.
On another occasion, he pursued her during a disagreement and punched her in the face in a public place.
The most serious assault took place when her children found her upstairs, bloodied from head injuries after Dawson had broken her head with a wine glass and punched her twice.
Dawson had been in custody since April of the previous year and had a criminal record comprising 14 convictions for 16 different offenses, including assault, harassment, and criminal damage.
He admitted to inflicting actual bodily harm on Valentine’s Day 2022, assault by beating on March 1, and grievous bodily harm on April 9.
His legal team pointed to family issues and psychiatric treatment, asserting he was making efforts toward rehabilitation and intended to improve.
Despite this, he was sentenced to serve two years and six months in prison.
The application for a restraining order was deferred after it was noted that the victim had visited him in prison.
