BURTON-UPON-TRENT WOMAN GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER IN EX-BOXER'S DEATH
On 25 July 2021, Kayley Mahood, aged 30, was involved in a violent incident at her home on Rosliston Road, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire. She fatally stabbed her ex-boyfriend, Oliver O'Toole, who was 31, during a heated argument.
O'Toole was found on a garden wall with a stab wound to his chest and died shortly after 12:30 BST.
Mahood claimed that she had acted in self-defence, stating she had been punched in the face before the stabbing occurred.
During her trial in Stafford Crown Court, the jurors convicted her of manslaughter, not murder.
The evidence showed that their relationship had been volatile and marked by violence from both parties.
Mahood believed she only did what was necessary to defend herself.
She is now awaiting sentencing, and her actions have been acknowledged as having profoundly impacted Oliver O'Toole's family and friends, who have had their lives forever changed.
