LIAM COWAN FROM GLENROTHES CAUGHT IN CHILD CHAT SCANDAL IN KIRKCALDY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Glenrothes, Liam Cowan, a 33-year-old distribution manager, found himself at the center of a serious online grooming investigation. The incident unfolded when Cowan engaged in conversations with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl named Georgia on a children’s chat platform.According to court reports, the undercover police operation was initiated on May 16, 2023, when an officer using the alias Georgia was deployed on the Chat Avenue platform. The officer posed as a young girl aged 13, participating in a chat room specifically designed for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17, called KidsChat. Cowan, unaware of the undercover setup, actively engaged with the officer in this space.
During the exchange, Cowan’s online identity included his full name in his Snapchat username. The conversation revealed that Georgia claimed to be living in Lincoln and was currently out of school. Cowan responded casually, saying, “Same lol,” indicating a shared sense of boredom. The conversation quickly took a more inappropriate turn, with Cowan asking if Georgia was “cute or hot” and expressing his interest in sharing explicit images.
He explicitly stated, “I would have shown you my c*** too,” to which the undercover officer responded non-judgmentally, “Ok. That up 2 u.” Cowan’s comments clearly indicated his intentions, and he continued to pursue the conversation with sexually explicit language and propositions.
Following the online interaction, authorities executed a search warrant at Cowan’s residence in Glenrothes, specifically at Thornhill Court. During the raid, officers recovered a mobile phone containing the chat logs, which provided concrete evidence of the exchanges. When questioned, Cowan claimed he could not recall the conversations, despite the digital evidence.
He appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday, just a day before his 34th birthday. Cowan pleaded guilty to sending sexual communications to a person he believed to be a minor aged between 13 and 16. The court heard that he admitted to the charges relating to the incident on May 16 of the previous year.
As the case continues, sentencing has been deferred pending further reports. In the meantime, Cowan has been placed on the sex offenders register, a measure that underscores the severity of his actions and the ongoing concern for community safety in Glenrothes and beyond.
