September 2012 Gloucester man jailed for “grooming” girl, 14, via webcam A MAN who seduced a 14-year-old girl into behaving indecently in front of a webcam has been jailed for eight months. The girl had claimed to be over 21 when she logged into the Oasis adult dating site on the internet. She met Liam Brown, 22, through the site and they exchanged phone numbers – and then downloaded Skype so they could see each other via the web, said Mark Hollier, prosecuting at Gloucester Crown Court. By that time, he said, Brown had discovered the girl’s true age. “Knowing her tender years, he groomed her and persuaded her to perform sexually overt acts which he watched,” said Mr Hollier, who added that Brown performed sex acts at the same time. The activity stopped when the girl’s parents discovered her activities on the computer late at night. The girl, who was not from Gloucestershire, was candid with police about what had gone on and agreed the sexual conversations between Brown and her had been salacious and graphic. “She said she would do this to make him happy. She said he told her that he loved her. “She considered him as a boyfriend and thought that they were ‘going out’. She would say it was wrong but he would say it was okay.” Brown, of Askwith Road, Gloucester, who admitted admitted causing or inciting the girl to engage in sexual activity between July and September last year, was at the time on parole from a 40 months jail term for burglary. He has now been recalled to prison. Judge William Hart jailed Brown for eight months telling him: “There is nothing to suggest you have paedophile tendencies. There was no actual sexual contact between you and she was a willing participant. “But you have to accept that the courts have to protect girls of this age from their own immature sexual desires.” Brown was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
