LIAM BROWN BRIDGEND CARER CAUGHT WITH CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Bridgend, Liam Brown, a 38-year-old carer, was found to be in possession of an alarming number of indecent images of children, some as young as three years old.

The investigation revealed that Brown had accumulated nearly 1,500 such images, including videos classified as Category A, which are considered the most severe in terms of abuse content.

Details emerged during a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on a recent Wednesday, where prosecutors disclosed that police had traced a Dropbox account under the alias “Care Bear Brown” to Brown’s residence in Charles Street, Bridgend.

This account had uploaded 22 indecent images, prompting further investigation.

When officers arrived at the property, which Brown shared with his mother and stepfather, he readily admitted responsibility for the material.

He reportedly told officers, “I know what you’re on about, I should have got rid of them,” indicating an awareness of the illicit content he possessed.

Brown confessed to having an addiction to viewing these images, expressing remorse and concern over the potential loss of his employment.

The police seized three electronic devices from his home — an iPad, a mobile phone, and a laptop — all of which contained indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C.

The total number of images found on these devices was 1,442, with some of the children depicted in the most severe Category A images estimated to be as young as three years old.

An officer involved in the case described the images as “some of the worst” he had encountered, highlighting the severity of the material.

Further evidence revealed that Brown had been actively distributing these images via Dropbox and various chat rooms, providing links to the content.

Investigations uncovered that he had been communicating with other individuals on the Kik messenger app, sharing links to indecent images and directing people to files stored on iCloud.

Brown later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of distributing indecent images of children, three counts of possessing such images, possession of prohibited images, possession of an extreme pornographic image, and possession of a controlled class B drug.

The court was informed that Brown had previously worked as a carer for teenagers with behavioral issues.

His defense lawyer, Andrew Davies, described him as “hardworking” in his role.

However, the presiding judge, Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Rees, questioned how someone in Brown’s position could commit such offenses, which starkly contrasted with his professional responsibilities.

The defense argued that Brown had been “lying to himself” about his behavior and the consequences, attributing his actions to addiction.

They noted that he had expressed remorse and recognized the high regard in which he was once held within the community, as evidenced by references submitted on his behalf.

Despite this, Judge Rees dismissed Brown’s claims of addiction as an attempt to excuse his inability to control his impulses.

She emphasized that Brown had not only downloaded these disturbing images for his own gratification but had also actively distributed and encouraged others to access them.

The judge expressed particular concern given Brown’s role as a carer working with vulnerable children, stating, “One expects you to have had a heightened awareness on the effects of this trade.” She concluded by highlighting the devastating impact on the victims, noting that these children had been subjected to sexual abuse, robbed of their innocence, and endured physical suffering.

The court’s verdict underscored the gravity of Brown’s actions and the breach of trust inherent in his profession, leaving a community shaken by the revelations.
