LIAM BREWER FROM HEREFORD CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES WHILE COACHING YOUNG FOOTBALL TEAMS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Liam Brewer, a football coach from Hereford, was found to possess hundreds of indecent images of children on his personal computer.

Brewer, who was actively involved in youth football, managed a total of 11 teams comprising children as young as eight years old, under the auspices of United in the Community (UITC).

UITC is a well-known independent charity that served as the official pathway for young players into Hereford FC, making Brewer’s role particularly sensitive given the nature of his work.

Brewer, aged 26 at the time of his arrest, appeared before Hereford Crown Court this week to face charges related to the possession and downloading of indecent images of minors.

The court was informed that between June and November 2016, Brewer engaged in the illegal activity, which came to light following police investigations.

Prosecutor Timothy Sapwell explained that police received information indicating that indecent images had been uploaded onto Facebook by an unidentified individual.

Further investigation linked these images directly to Brewer’s residence, where he lived with his parents on Hopton Road, Aylestone Hill, Hereford.

Authorities discovered that Brewer’s laptop and external hard drive contained a significant collection of illegal images.

These included two of the most serious Category A images, which depict penetrative sexual activity involving children, along with 12 Category B images and a staggering 339 Category C images.

The police found that some of these images had been sourced from social media platforms, notably Snapchat, raising concerns about the ease of access and distribution.

During police interviews, Brewer admitted to downloading the images but was vague about their origin, claiming he obtained them from the internet without using specific sites.

The court was told that the images were stored in a folder under his name, indicating deliberate collection.

The images primarily depicted young boys aged between 12 and 16, with the most serious images involving sexual acts.

In addition to the criminal charges, the court heard that Brewer’s role as a football coach gave him direct contact with minors, raising serious concerns about his access to vulnerable children.

Brewer’s involvement in managing multiple teams and communicating with young players via text messages was highlighted as particularly troubling.

Judge Martin Jackson sentenced Brewer to a community order, which includes the requirement to attend 40 days of rehabilitation activities and complete 150 hours of unpaid work.

Furthermore, Brewer was ordered to participate in a community sex offender group work program.

The judge expressed his concern about the breach of trust involved in Brewer’s position as a coach, emphasizing the danger posed by his actions and the potential exploitation of children.

Additionally, Brewer was issued a five-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his contact with minors and monitoring his activities.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £350 and a victim surcharge of £85.

The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the offense and the importance of safeguarding children from individuals who abuse positions of trust.

Brewer’s previous public statements about his involvement in football, including his 2016 comment on the Hereford FC website about bringing the club closer to the community, now stand in stark contrast to his criminal conduct, which has left many in the community feeling betrayed and alarmed.
