DEWSBURY MAN ADMITS TO ASSAULTING EX-PARTNER WHILE HOLDING BABY
A man named Lewis Kershaw has admitted to assaulting his former partner by hitting her in the face while she was holding their baby. The victim suffered heavy bleeding and was left feeling frightened after the attack at her Dewsbury home.
The incident occurred after Kershaw, aged 31, had been separated from the victim for a year due to previous violence towards her property and damage.
During the assault, Kershaw had let himself into her Walnut Close address and became abusive, eventually walking towards the door as if to leave, then turning around and punching her in the face, which caused her nose to bleed heavily.
He then left but returned shortly after, flinging the door open.
The victim, frightened, dialed 999, and Kershaw left when he realized she was calling.
Kershaw admitted doing this but claimed he did not deliberately punch her.
Previously, he had pleaded guilty to pushing her in the chest, but a revised plea acknowledged he punched her with an open palm, not a fist, and that he did not intend to punch her.
He stated, “I understand that she's a victim, that's why I've come here to try and get matters resolved.” The case will be considered for sentencing on May 1, and Kershaw is currently banned from contacting the victim or going to her address.
The court judge emphasized the harmful impact of domestic violence, especially on a young baby present during the incident, and warned that Kershaw could face jail.
