LEWIS HUDSON'S HORRIFIC CRUELTY IN LIVERPOOL: TORTURE OF KITTEN BINX IN NETHERLEY
Lewis Hudson, born on June 9, 2000, and residing on Crispin Road in Netherley, Liverpool, has been convicted of a prolonged and heinous campaign of animal cruelty that culminated in the tragic death of a young kitten named Binx.Over a span of eight months, Hudson subjected the defenseless feline to a series of brutal and sadistic acts, including shooting her with a BB gun, scalding her in a shower, covering her in bleach, and physically assaulting her with various objects.
Hudson’s abuse began shortly after he moved into a flat in Prescot with his then-partner, Summer, who was the owner of Binx.
The move took place in August 2021.
In the months that followed, Summer noticed numerous injuries on the cat, but Hudson initially denied any involvement.
However, it soon became evident that he was responsible for the suffering inflicted upon Binx.
On one occasion, he punched the kitten after she scratched furniture, and on another, he left her in a shower with the water running for extended periods.
Summer found Binx distressed, crying, panting, with her skin hot to the touch, in a bathroom filled with steam.
In June 2022, Summer was watching amusing cat videos on her phone when Hudson showed her a disturbing video of himself stamping on Binx with steel toe cap boots.
The footage captured the cat’s screams, and Hudson ominously told Summer he would continue to harm her if she did not comply with his demands.
The cruelty escalated further when Summer discovered Binx lying motionless and bloodied in the bath after being hit with a shovel during a shower.
The force of the blow was so severe that Binx’s teeth had been broken and she was covered in blood.
Hudson’s brutality extended to shooting the cat with pellets from a BB gun, which he soaked in cleaning fluids before firing.
He also attempted to kill Binx by soaking a mop in bleach and hitting her with it.
Despite Summer’s efforts to rehome Binx, Hudson refused, fearing that the injuries would be traced back to him and expressing a desire to acquire a dog instead.
In August 2022, a series of disturbing text messages from Hudson to Summer revealed his violent intentions.
He threatened to “whack her with this shovel” and warned her that if she did not return home, he would kill Binx.
He also made threatening remarks about his own demeanor, claiming he would “f*** show” his true self to her family if they thought he was “a soft c because I am polite and quiet to them.” When Summer returned home, she found Binx lying motionless, her fur matted with blood from injuries sustained in the shower, and her teeth had been cleanly knocked out due to the force of the blows.
Overcome with shock, Summer fainted while her mother called the police.
Hudson was arrested at the scene.
During police questioning, he claimed that he was “all talk” and that he had only kicked the cat away from him, causing her to hit the TV stand.
RSPCA Inspector Anthony Joynes, who investigated the case, described the condition of Binx in his report.
The cat was wrapped in a bag, covered with a towel, and placed inside a cardboard box.
Inspector Joynes observed multiple fresh wounds around her nose and chin, with no signs of a road traffic accident or scuffed claws.
The inside of her mouth was bloodied, and both upper canines were broken.
A peculiar crackling sound from her chest indicated possible subcutaneous emphysema, a sign of chest trauma.
Post-mortem examinations revealed extensive injuries, including bruises, abrasions, fractured ribs, and a punctured lung, which was confirmed as the cause of death.
The report noted that Binx had suffered significantly, with evidence suggesting she was alive and mobile for some time after sustaining injuries.
The presence of blood and feces in various areas of the premises indicated she had been injured and moving around shortly before her death.
The forensic analysis concluded that her death resulted from a traumatic, non-accidental pneumothorax caused by multiple blunt traumas.
During the court proceedings, Hudson’s defense highlighted his traumatic childhood, supported by his father and family members, including his mother, Lisa Hudson, a bakery owner, and his grandmother, Marion Hudson.
However, Honour Judge Brian Cummings KC condemned Hudson’s actions as a “sickening catalogue of cruelty to a defenceless animal,” emphasizing the prolonged and sadistic nature of the abuse.
Hudson pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty and one of harassment related to the threatening text messages.
The judge sentenced him to two years and three months in prison.
Additionally, he imposed a restraining order preventing Hudson from contacting Summer for ten years and disqualified him from owning any animals for life.
Inspector Joynes commented on the case, describing it as one of the most extreme instances of cruelty he had encountered in his 14 years with the RSPCA.
He stated, “This case involved stomach-churning and sadistic levels of cruelty over a prolonged period.
The extreme suffering Binx endured was used to hurt and punish her owner, who was devastated by what happened to her beloved pet.
This is exactly why the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill was introduced in 2021—to increase penalties for the most severe cases of animal cruelty.” The RSPCA collaborated with police authorities to bring Hudson to justice, highlighting the importance of stringent laws and enforcement in protecting vulnerable animals from such horrific abuse.
