SHOCKING CRIME IN STREATHAM: LEONARD WALLACE'S HORRIFIC ABUSE OF TEEN VICTIM LEADS TO 16-YEAR SENTENCE

In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Streatham community, Leonard Wallace, aged 49, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a prolonged and heinous pattern of sexual abuse against a young girl. The crimes, which spanned over six months, involved Wallace attacking the girl at least twice weekly, exploiting her trust and vulnerability in a manner that has left lasting scars on her and her family.

Wallace, a resident of the Sackville estate in Streatham, was brought before the Inner London Crown Court on Thursday, July 19. The court heard that he had pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexually assaulting the girl when she was under the age of 13, and raping her once she reached 13. The severity of his actions was underscored by the fact that he never used protection, which ultimately led to the girl becoming pregnant. Her pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, a tragic event that brought his crimes to light and prompted police to investigate further.

During the sentencing, Wallace was dressed in casual attire—jeans, a denim jacket, and a jumper—and stood emotionless in the dock as the judge delivered his verdict. The courtroom was filled with a mixture of shock and relief, as the victim’s family and friends expressed their emotions through applause as Wallace was taken into custody. The court also imposed a lifelong sexual prevention order, explicitly prohibiting Wallace from being in the company of girls under 18 unless accompanied by an adult, in an effort to prevent any future harm.

Prosecutor Mr. William Eaglestone detailed the extent of Wallace’s predatory behavior, revealing that he would assault the girl at least twice a week and would often give her money to ensure her cooperation. When she resisted, Wallace would resort to physical violence, pulling her hair and calling her demeaning names. The court was also shown excerpts from a diary written by the victim, which vividly expressed her despair and suffering. In her own words, she described her life as “hell,” expressing a desire to die and describing her existence as a “**** up,” highlighting the profound emotional trauma inflicted upon her.

Judge Roger Chapple acknowledged the long-lasting impact of Wallace’s actions, emphasizing that the victim and her family would carry emotional scars for years to come. He condemned Wallace’s betrayal of trust, stating, “You have robbed her of her innocence and childhood. You have turned her young world upside down. You have put her through a ghastly experience, and it must have been truly terrifying for her and her family.” The judge further condemned Wallace for exploiting his position of trust and for the manipulative tactics he employed, including paying the girl to keep her silent and compliant.

Following the sentencing, a member of the victim’s family expressed their discontent with the length of the sentence, describing the ongoing struggles they face in trying to rebuild their lives. They revealed that the family had to leave their home, where they had lived for many years, due to the trauma and upheaval caused by the case. The family also issued a chilling warning, stating that Wallace had threatened to find and kill the girl if he ever went to prison, underscoring the ongoing danger they perceive from him.

Detective Constable Kevin Snow, from Lambeth police’s child abuse investigation command, commented on the case, describing it as “particularly distressing” for the victim and her family. He praised her resilience, noting that she underwent hospital treatment following the abuse and demonstrated remarkable strength throughout the investigation. Police investigations suggest that Wallace may have other victims, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the police at 020 7232 6397, in hopes of preventing further harm and bringing additional perpetrators to justice.
