LEE TIFFNEY FROM STEVENAGE JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN HERTFORDSHIRE

In September 2011, a serious case of sexual misconduct resulted in the imprisonment of Lee Tiffney, a 40-year-old baker residing in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Tiffney was sentenced to four years behind bars after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a minor, a 14-year-old girl, in a case that shocked the local community and drew significant courtroom attention.

According to court proceedings, Tiffney exploited the vulnerability of the young girl for his own sexual gratification. The court heard that he took advantage of her during a period when she was particularly susceptible, and the relationship involved frequent sexual encounters, reportedly most nights. The details of the case revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior that persisted over a period of time, highlighting the predatory nature of Tiffney’s actions.

During the trial at Luton Crown Court, Tiffney initially refused to admit to the charges, citing the shame that would be brought upon his family if his actions were publicly disclosed. His reluctance to accept responsibility resulted in the victim being subjected to the ordeal of giving evidence twice, as two separate trials were held. This added emotional distress to the young girl, who was forced to relive her traumatic experience more than once.

Prosecutor Jan Hayne emphasized the extent of the misconduct, stating, “He had a sexual relationship with her over a period of time. They had sex most nights.” The court was told that the relationship was ongoing and involved multiple instances of sexual activity.

Defense lawyer Katherine Mansfield argued that Tiffney had been assessed as being of low risk of re-offending. She stated, “He has made admissions and it was not a pattern of behavior. He has finally unburdened himself of his awful secret. He recognizes that the relationship was completely inappropriate.” Despite this, the judge, David Farrell QC, expressed disappointment over Tiffney’s initial denial, noting that his failure to admit guilt earlier had caused unnecessary suffering for the victim.

Judge Farrell condemned Tiffney’s actions, describing them as “an appalling piece of behavior.” He pointed out that the defendant had exploited the girl’s vulnerability for his own sexual pleasure, emphasizing the gravity of the offense by stating, “She was only 14.”

As part of his sentence, Tiffney was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was prohibited from working with children in any capacity. The case served as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who abuse their positions of trust and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable minors in the community.
