LEE SUTHERLAND OF DUNFERMLINE INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE OFFENCES OVER THE YEARS

In 2017, Lee Sutherland, a 25-year-old from Dunfermline, is currently in custody following threats made against his mental health officer. Court reports indicate that he appeared from detention at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and pled guilty to incidents on June 10 and June 16. On June 10, at his home, he behaved in a threatening manner, attempting to intimidate a woman and threatening to set her on fire. The conflict stemmed from issues related to his access to see a child. On June 16, Sutherland also admitted to stealing alcohol from the Co-operative store on Shamrock Street. Defense solicitor Danielle Varela explained that Sutherland was battling heroin addiction and had taken Valium on the day of the threats. She clarified that the threats were not directly aimed at the mental health officer, but she heard them indirectly, considering them to be empty threats. At the time, Sutherland was still on licence following early release from a previous sentence. Sheriff Derek Reekie characterized the charges as serious and concerning, postponing the sentencing until August 16 to await reports. Bail was denied.

In 2015, a separate incident involved a Dunfermline man, identified as Lee Sutherland, aged 24, of Broomhead Drive, who admitted to assaulting his former partner. The court heard that on January 7, at Canon Lynch Court, he assaulted the woman, pushing her and hitting her repeatedly on the head, causing injury. He also admitted to possessing benzodiazepine controlled drugs on the same day at Dunfermline police station, and breaching bail conditions on January 10 by sending text messages to his partner. Defense agent Jonathan Matheson-Dear acknowledged his client's extensive record, citing mental health issues as background. Sheriff Craig McSherry ordered a report and scheduled Sutherland's sentencing for Tuesday, April 7.

Additionally, earlier reports described Sutherland's violent behavior from 2015, including an incident in which he assaulted his former girlfriend, pushing her and pulling her hair. His solicitor noted he was seeking help for anger management, emphasizing that he was no longer in a relationship with the complainant and was available for treatment. Sheriff McSherry imposed a two-year community payback order, supervision, and mandated attendance at domestic abuse group programs.
