BRISTOL MAN LEE KING SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEX OFFENCES IN BRISTOL AND LONDON
In a significant case that spanned multiple locations and involved extensive police cooperation, a 23-year-old man from Bristol, identified as Lee King, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for serious sexual offences.The conviction was handed down at Bristol Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault, following a trial that lasted a week.
The investigation into these offences was notably lengthy, taking approximately two and a half years to complete.
It involved a collaborative effort between Avon and Somerset Police’s specialized Operation Bluestone team, the Metropolitan Police, and Essex Police.
This multi-agency approach was crucial in gathering evidence and building a comprehensive case against King.
The first victim, an 18-year-old woman, came forward in May 2011, reporting that she had been raped by King at his residence in Bristol on the 19th of May.
She later disclosed that she had also been sexually assaulted by King at an address in Essex roughly a week prior to the Bristol incident.
This revelation prompted further investigation into King’s activities across different locations.
Subsequently, in June 2011, a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, contacted the Metropolitan Police to report that she had been sexually assaulted by King at an address in the South Woodford area of London on the 21st of May.
These allegations added to the mounting evidence against King and underscored the pattern of his offending behavior.
Detective Constable Andrew Coggins, who led the investigation, described King as a manipulative and opportunistic offender.
He explained that King exploited both a young woman and a teenage girl, taking advantage of their trust and vulnerability.
According to Coggins, after the rape, the victim confronted King and questioned his actions.
His response was to attempt emotional manipulation, trying to dissuade her from contacting the police, which further demonstrated his manipulative nature.
Commenting on the lengthy investigation, Detective Coggins expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the different police forces involved.
He praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward and supporting the investigation through to the trial.
Coggins expressed hope that, with justice served, the victims might now find some measure of closure after enduring such traumatic experiences.
