LEE HOLMES FROM HULL SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL OFFENSES

In August 2018, authorities conducted a detailed raid on the residence of Lee Holmes, a 48-year-old man residing in Hull, revealing a disturbing collection of child abuse material.

The police operation uncovered a staggering total of 1,837 indecent images and videos, including 227 of the most serious Category A content, which depicts the most severe forms of child exploitation.

Among the items found was a single image of extreme pornography, further highlighting the disturbing nature of Holmes's collection.

Holmes’s digital devices, which included two computers and a hard drive, served as repositories for this illicit material.

Although some of the content was no longer accessible to him, it was established that he had been actively downloading and viewing such material over a period of five years.

The police raid was prompted by information passed to law enforcement authorities, leading to the execution of a warrant that uncovered Holmes’s extensive and illegal online activity.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Phillip Evans emphasized the gravity of Holmes’s actions, noting that some of the victims depicted in the videos were as young as four years old.

He pointed out that the duration of some of the Category A videos was particularly disturbing, with the Crown describing a 53-minute film as a long time to be engaging with such content.

The severity of the material was underscored by the fact that Holmes had accumulated over 200 such films, all of which involved real children subjected to horrific abuse.

Holmes, who resides on Estcourt Street in Clive Vale, admitted to four counts of making indecent images and one count of possessing extreme pornography.

In sentencing, Recorder Caroline Wigin acknowledged Holmes’s guilty plea and cooperation, but she also emphasized the seriousness of his offenses.

She described how Holmes had spent five years accessing and viewing the worst types of child pornography, including long films that depict real children undergoing unimaginable suffering.

In her remarks, the judge explained the classification of Category A material, noting that it is designated as such because it involves the most serious form of child exploitation.

She expressed her concern over Holmes’s actions, stating that his behavior was driven by a desire for gratification, which directly contributed to the suffering of the victims depicted in the videos.

Despite the gravity of his crimes, Holmes was given a suspended sentence of one year in prison, which will be served alongside a series of strict conditions.

He was ordered to participate in 31 sessions of the Horizons programme, designed for internet offenders, and to undergo up to 40 days of rehabilitation.

Additionally, Holmes was placed under an electronically monitored curfew from 7 pm to 7 am for three months, required to register as a sex offender for ten years, and subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.

The judge issued a stern warning, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the court’s orders.

She stated that failure to adhere to the conditions could result in Holmes serving the full prison sentence.

Holmes responded with a simple “Yes,” acknowledging his understanding of the serious consequences of his actions.

The court’s decision reflects the ongoing efforts to address and prevent such heinous crimes, while also highlighting the importance of rehabilitation and monitoring for offenders like Holmes.
