LEE GROVES SWINDON MAN JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND EXTREME ANIMAL SEX IMAGES

In a serious case of online child exploitation and extreme pornography, Lee Groves, a resident of Swindon, was sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of possessing a large collection of indecent images of children and explicit material involving animals.

The investigation revealed that Groves, aged 52, had been downloading and accumulating these illicit images over a span of five years, with his activities often involving contact with other individuals sharing similar interests.

Authorities uncovered that Groves’s computer contained over 1,300 indecent images of children, with the earliest being dated back to April 2006 and the latest in December 2011.

Additionally, investigators discovered 207 images depicting adults engaging in sexual acts with animals, highlighting the disturbing nature of his collection.

The examination of his devices also revealed hundreds of pictures classified as extreme pornography, including explicit content involving animals and humans.

Prosecutor Tessa Hingston told Swindon Crown Court that Groves was caught after authorities traced his online activity, which included visits to illegal websites.

During questioning, Groves initially denied that any illicit material was stored on his devices but later admitted to their presence.

He explained that he used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to exchange files and had installed a recovery program to restore data in case of system errors.

Further investigation into his computer history showed that Groves had used specific search terms such as ‘nude pre-teen model’ over a period of five years, indicating a persistent interest in illegal content involving minors.

The police found multiple hard drives and computers, all containing indecent images of children and explicit content involving animals.

Groves, of Upham Road in Swindon, pleaded guilty to nine counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing such images, and one count of possessing extreme pornography.

The court was informed that the images of children numbered 1,368, while the images involving animals and sexual acts with them totaled 207.

Defence lawyer Grahame James argued that most of the images were at the lowest level of severity, classified as level one, and were for personal use rather than distribution.

He emphasized that Groves had no prior criminal record and had been awaiting sentencing for over two years since his arrest.

James highlighted the psychological toll of the prolonged legal process on Groves, noting that since his arrest, his employment had been suspended, and he had faced public hostility, with local residents shouting accusations of being a paedophile outside his home.

Judge Tim Mousley QC addressed the court, stating that the evidence showed Groves had multiple computers and hard drives containing illegal material.

The use of peer-to-peer software indicated that he was connected with others sharing similar interests.

The judge detailed the severity of the images, noting that among the over 1,300 images, 23 were classified at the most severe levels four and five.

Considering Groves’s age, lack of previous convictions, and the significant delay in bringing the case to court, Judge Mousley concluded that only an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate.

He sentenced Groves to one year in prison and imposed a ten-year sexual offences prevention order, which includes restrictions on his liberty and the requirement to register as a sex offender for the same period.

Detective Sergeant Jason Roberts of the Child Internet Exploitation Team emphasized the commitment of Wiltshire Police to combat online child exploitation.

He urged the public to report any suspicions of individuals involved in possessing or distributing indecent images of children or engaging in online sexual exploitation.

Members of the community are encouraged to contact Wiltshire Police directly or leave anonymous tips via Crimestoppers at 0800 55 111 to help safeguard children and bring offenders to justice.
