LEE DIXON FROM BELLSHILL SENTENCED IN LANARKSHIRE FOR UPKIRTING STUDENTS IN CLASSROOM

A mother from Lanarkshire has expressed her profound outrage and disgust after a teacher at a local high school was convicted of secretly filming and upskirting her daughter during class. The teacher, identified as Lee Dixon, a 30-year-old mathematics instructor originally from Bellshill, was sentenced to 19 months in prison this week following a series of disturbing incidents involving underage students.

According to court records, Dixon was caught in the act after another student discovered him with his mobile phone aimed at a girl’s underwear from beneath his desk. The incident took place within the classroom setting of a high school in Lanarkshire, where Dixon had been employed for only a few months before his misconduct was uncovered. The police investigation revealed that Dixon had secretly recorded a 12-year-old girl and, on two separate occasions, captured videos of a 15-year-old girl’s underwear. These actions have caused significant distress to the victims and their families.

The mother of the 15-year-old girl, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, voiced her outrage over the teacher’s actions. She described the impact on her daughter’s mental health and her academic performance, emphasizing her disbelief that someone in a position of authority and trust could commit such acts. She stated, “I’m disgusted that a person in such a position of power and trust with young people could do this.” She also expressed concern that this behavior might not have been an isolated incident, suggesting that other children could have been targeted without their knowledge.

While pleased that Dixon received a custodial sentence, the mother believed that the punishment should have been more severe. She called for Dixon to be registered as a sex offender for life and insisted that he should never be allowed to work with children or vulnerable groups again. Her comments reflect a broader concern about safeguarding and the need for strict measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police responded swiftly to the school in March 2023 after a fellow student uncovered Dixon’s inappropriate activity and found incriminating footage on his phone. The investigation uncovered evidence of his misconduct, leading to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings. Dixon’s defense lawyer admitted during the hearing that his client was “disgusted” by his own behavior, which he described as “despicable.” The lawyer also mentioned that Dixon had recently obtained an HGV license and was hoping to pursue a career as a driver, seemingly attempting to move past his previous actions.

Despite his conviction, Dixon’s family remained supportive, with some relatives present during the sentencing. The judge, Sheriff Derek Livingston, emphasized the severity of Dixon’s breach of trust, stating that such conduct warranted a prison sentence. Dixon was sentenced to 19 months and was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years. Additionally, Scottish Ministers will be advised that Dixon is unsuitable for employment involving children or vulnerable groups.
