LEE CUNLIFFE SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS IN PRISON IN LIVERPOOL FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man described as a 'despicable' rapist who subjected his victim to re-trauma by forcing her to relive her ordeal in court has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
Lee Cunliffe, aged 37 and of St Helens, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court to face charges including three counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and false imprisonment.
After denying these charges, Cunliffe was convicted following a trial held on Wednesday, November 10.
He was subsequently sentenced to 17 years in prison, with an additional five years on extended licence.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan expressed relief and satisfaction that Cunliffe had been held accountable.
He stated, "We share the victim's relief and satisfaction that Cunliffe has been dealt with by the courts.
While no sentence can repair the pain and suffering Cunliffe has caused to his victim, I hope he will reflect on his despicable actions while behind bars." He added, "By denying the offences, Cunliffe forced his victim to endure the additional pain of reliving her ordeal through the trial, and it is pleasing to know he has been jailed for a long time.
I would like to pay tribute to the strength and bravery shown by the victim in coming forward to provide evidence against Cunliffe so that justice could be served." The detective also acknowledged the emotional toll on victims of such offences and reassured that she will continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
