LEE CLARKE FROM SWINDON INVOLVED IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Swindon, Lee Clarke, a man with a troubling history, has been convicted of possessing a vast collection of child sexual abuse images.The details of his criminal activities have come to light through court proceedings, revealing a pattern of depraved behavior that spanned several years.
Between 2017 and 2018, Clarke was appointed as the chairman of Swindon & Wiltshire Gay Pride, a position that, according to reports, was obtained without the necessary DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
This oversight raised serious concerns given Clarke’s contact with young people through his role, highlighting potential vulnerabilities in safeguarding procedures within the organization.
However, the most grave revelations emerged from his earlier criminal conviction.
In September 2014, Clarke, then 42 years old and residing in Wendouree, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing nearly 15,000 child sexual abuse images and hundreds of videos.
The court heard that Clarke’s collection was extensive and deeply disturbing, containing images that depicted young boys engaged in sexual acts with adult men.
Judge Frank Gucciardo, presiding over the case at the County Court in Ballarat, described the material as “revolting” and “abhorrent,” emphasizing the depraved nature of the offenses.
The judge stated that many of the images involved exploited and abused children, and that the offending was not an isolated incident but part of a sustained pattern of behavior.
The court also noted that a large number of victims had been exploited to produce such material, underscoring the severity and scale of the abuse.
Clarke’s criminal activities came to light in October 2012 when he was caught allowing a covert police officer to access his collection of child abuse images.
Investigations revealed that Clarke was an active participant in an online peer-to-peer file sharing network, where he both viewed and shared illicit content with approximately 250 other users.
Court records indicated that Clarke engaged in discussions about grooming tactics with other users and, on one occasion, admitted to having engaged in a sexual act with a young boy he had met near a shopping centre.
During the court proceedings, Clarke pleaded guilty to charges of accessing and making available child pornography via a carriage service.
His actions have led to a 15-year registration on the sex offenders register, and he will be eligible for parole in nine months.
The case has raised significant concerns about safeguarding and the potential risks posed by individuals involved in such heinous crimes, especially those who hold positions of trust and influence within the community.
